Gustav Landauer invoca una «psicología social» cuyo contenido es una crítica radical de la sociedad de su tiempo. En sus inicios, Landauer era socialista independiente además de socialdemócrata, pero fue cambiando sus posiciones ideológicas hacia el anarquismo. Este itinerario, al mismo tiempo biográfico y político, refleja grandes eventos de su época, desde los congresos de la Segunda Internacional, en los que madura la separación entre socialdemocracia y anarquismo, a la República de los Consejos de Baviera, donde encontrará la muerte el 2 de mayo de 1919, asesinado en la cárcel por un grupo de policías que nunca fueron condenados por ello. Pese a la época dramática en la que vive, Landauer está firmemente convencido de que otro mundo no sólo es necesario, sino también posible, aquí y ahora; por ello, la vigencia de su obra. Además esta edición cuenta con un nuevo prólogo escrito por José María Ripalda.
