Sinopsis
En la primavera del año 1239, durante el reinado de Teobaldo I de Navarra, conde de Champagne, en el Mont-Aimé, cercano a la pequeña comuna francesa de Vertus, 183 cátaros, hombres y mujeres, son ejecutados en la hoguera acusados de herejía. El responsable del genocidio es un fraile, Robert Lepetit, llamado el Bugre, nombrado inquisidor por el papa Gregorio IX. …
En la primavera del año 1239, durante el reinado de Teobaldo I de Navarra, conde de Champagne, en el Mont-Aimé, cercano a la pequeña comuna francesa de Vertus, 183 cátaros, hombres y mujeres, son ejecutados en la hoguera acusados de herejía. El responsable del genocidio es un fraile, Robert Lepetit, llamado el Bugre, nombrado inquisidor por el papa Gregorio IX. Debido a sus muchos y horrendos crímenes, a su crueldad y sadismo, es encarcelado y expulsado de la orden de los dominicos, pero escapa y emprende la ruta hacia Compostela.
A lo largo de esta narración, el lector recorre el llamado Camino de Santiago por Francia y Navarra, y convive con peregrinos, agotes, cátaros, constructores y junteros levantiscos. El agote Eder Bozat, el maestro Geoffroi Bisol, Alix, Alazaïs o el templario Bertrand de Garlande, serán algunos de los compañeros de este viaje en el que el amor, la pasión, el crimen y las creencias antiguas se hallan presentes, junto a la devoción, la política y la dureza de una época real.
